Indian Festival Calendar

Indian Festival Calendar depends on the movement of the Sun and the Moon. So, there are 30 different calendars to set festivals of the discrete region, cultures and customs. So, to unify all festivals and bring them to one platform, holidays are mentioned in the Gregorian calendar to keep festival zest alive in us. Though dates are based on the Gregorian calendar, celebrations of the festival are as per regional, and ethnic styles considering all religious beliefs and traditions.

Hindu Panchang or Panchagam is used for auspicious Puja timings and setting Indian festivals on the Gregorian calendar. Shaka Samvat and Vikram Samvat calendars start with Chaitra month and are based on the lunisolar system. However, Chaitra Pratipada of Shukla Paksha falls either in March or April.

Maha Shivratri 2023

One of the most important festivals in Hinduism, Maha Shivratri, marks the night when Lord Shiva performed his heavenly dance. It is called Maha Shivratri because this day is the most prominent of all the 12 Shivaratri that are celebrated throughout the year. A Shivratri comes every month on the Trayodashi or Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha. The most important night of Lord Shiva is the symbolism for overcoming the darkness of evil, and it is celebrated all over the country with extreme enthusiasm.

Phalguna Amavasya 2023

Phalguna Amavasya is the last day of the Phalguna. The month full of festivals itself ends with an auspicious day. People make offerings to their ancestors, observe fast, and take a bath in a holy river. Doing these on the Phalguna Amavasya is believed to remove Pitru dosha and take you to salvation. Moreover, if this day falls on a Monday, it is considered extremely important. Deities like Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva are worshipped on the day.
